Class of 2004

The Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa is dedicated to honoring the great individuals who achieved the highest level of success in the sport of wrestling, whether they were native born Iowans or attended Iowa schools. This will be the third class.

Nine legendary Iowa wrestling personalities will be inducted into the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 17. The hall is located in the International Wrestling Institute and Museum in Waterloo, Iowa.


 
“On the Mat” is a weekly wrestling radio program that airs every Wednesday night. The broadcast can be heard live from 6-7 p.m. Central Standard Time. The Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum in Waterloo, Iowa, hosts the show.

Les Anderson - Two-time NCAA champion and three-time All-American wrestler at Iowa State University, and longtime assistant coach at Iowa State, Iowa state high school champion at Clarion
Tom Peckham - Two-time NCAA champion and three-time All-American wrestler at Iowa State University, fourth in the 1968 Olympics, three-time Iowa high school champion at Cresco
Bill Weick - Two-time NCAA champion at Iowa State Teachers College, most coaching wins in Illinois high school history, coach of many international and national teams, from Chicago
Joe Corso - Ten-time national freestyle champion, third in the World Championships of 1979, 1976 Olympic team; Pan-American Games champion; All-American at Purdue University; state champion from Des Moines Roosevelt
Chuck Yagla - Two-time NCAA champion at the University of Iowa and three-time All-American; 1980 Olympic team, former assistant coach at Iowa, NCAA-level referee, from Waterloo
Royce Alger - Two-time NCAA champion at Iowa and three-time All-American, silver medal winner in 1990 World Championships, three-time state champion at Lisbon High School
Nat Pendleton - Silver medal winner, 1920 Olympics, three-time AAU national champion, from Davenport; Iowa's first Olympic medal winner, appeared in over 60 movies during long Hollywood career
Special Contributors:

Dr. Dale Thomas - Most wins of any coach in NCAA history with 616 victories at Oregon State University; third in the NCAAs for Cornell College in 1947, on 1952 and 1956 Olympic teams, 6-time national champion in freestyle and Greco-Roman, from Marion
Brad Smith - The only coach in Iowa to win state championships at two high schools (Lisbon and Iowa City High), has coached two teams to a total of 10 state tournament titles and five dual meet state tiles, coach of 29 individual state champions in 25 year-career, was NCAA champion at University of Iowa
