Ed Banach won an Olympic gold medal at the 1984 Olympics in dominating fashion. The Port Jervis, NY, native went 4-0 and won in the finals 12-0 over Akira Ohta from Japan.

Banach's career at the University of Iowa was equally impressive. From 1980-1983 the Hawkeye star made it to the finals of the NCAA tournament all four years and won titles in 1980, '81, & '83. Banach finished his career at Iowa with a 141-9-1 record. He also holds the school record for most pins in a career (73) and ranks second in season pins (22).
