Jack Brisco was a three-time high school state champion at Blackwell , Oklahoma , and also an all-state fullback on the high school football team. At Oklahoma State University , he was a two-time All-American at 191 pounds, and fashioned an undefeated season in 1965, winning the NCAA title along the way.

Signed up by legendary promoter LeRoy McGuirk, Brisco entered the professional ring in 1965 and quickly climbed the ladder of success. Handsome and blessed with natural athletic skills, he excited crowds all over the South and became a huge favorite. He was NWA world heavyweight champion for nearly six years.
